The name Punta Gorda is Spanish for "broad point." This city is a historic waterfront community that linked to Hernando DeSoto and his landing at Live Oak Point on the Peace River around 1539. To the right is a collage of 4 pictures. They are a mosaic of the scenic areas throughout Punta Gorda. Please be patient they will take a minute or so to load. Great places to stop and visit are Fisherman's Village. This little shopping mall over looks the Peace River, The Trabue Cottage, which was the home of the city's founder Col. Isaac Trabue and the Charlotte County Art Guild's Visual Arts Center has the latest exhibits. The population of Punta Gorda is 26,332. Landmarks are the Town Clock which is on West Marion Ave. in the city's downtown district. The clock is a replica of turn of the century street clock. |
